HYNDLAND RFC vs MOFFAT RFC

Hyndland's first home match of the season saw them welcome Moffat RFC to Scotstoun Stadium. After narrowly missing out against Cumbernauld in their debut outing, the home side were determined to get their first win on the board and started strongly.

In a real statement of intent, Hyndland recovered the opening kick-off in their own 22 and instead of opting for the safety of a clearance, kept the ball in hand. Several phases of play followed which saw Hyndland work the full length of the field, culminating in Stirling touching down in the corner for his side's opening score.

The game plan was clear from the start; the Hyndland pack setting the platform to allow their new-look backline to play free-flowing, expansive rugby. The visitors had no answer, as doubles from O'Rourke and McGuinness helped Hyndland into a commanding 33-0 lead.

After such a stunning first half display, Hyndland could possibly have been accused of taking their foot off the gas at the beginning of the second period as they the allowed Moffat onto the scoreboard. Nevertheless, further tries from Doolan, Jack and MacNicol kept the home side well out of reach as they ran out comfortable winners in the end.

After suffering the disappointment of defeat in their opening fixture, Hyndland responded in the best possible way with a dominant victory over Moffat. It was a great team performance which saw them win the battle up front, allowing the backline to flourish. The rugby on display was a real joy to watch at times.

Though the home side can rightly be proud of the win, the next step will be to try and sustain that level of performance over the full 80 minutes.
