Hyndland RFC vs Moffat RFC

Hyndland's latest league fixture saw them welcome Moffat RFC to Scotstoun. The previous two fixtures gave the selectors a hard time as limited player availability left the club struggling to put together full squads for trips to Bishopton and Lochaber. This week however saw the return of several regulars to the squad as the club were able to name a strong starting XV as well as a full set of replacements.

The game began with Hyndland on the front foot. The home side's dominance in the scrum gave the team a solid platform to work from, allowing the backs to get plenty of ball in the opening exchanges which were largely played in Moffat territory. Grant was the first name on the scoresheet as he burst through a gap in the Moffat defence after receiving the ball inside the visitors' 22 metre line.

The team's second score began from a much deeper position. A break down the right hand side saw Malik release winger Madigan in space. The Moffat defence had no chance of catching him as he streaked down the touchline from 40 yards out to score the try. Hyndland entered the interval with a 17-0 advantage as Grant crossed the line for a second time with another fine finish.

Unfortunately Hyndland were unable to replicate their fine first half form in the second period as they quickly allowed Moffat back into the match with the concession of two quick tries. Full back Nisbet looked to have halted Moffat's comeback by scoring Hyndland's 4th try with a break down the right hand side. However, Moffat followed up with a further two tries to take the lead.

Hyndland furiously pressed for a score to retake the lead and thought that they had done just that in the final moments. A move down the right hand side saw MacIver burst into the opposition 22. Bearing down on the line he passed the ball out to Madigan. The winger scooped up the loose ball and touched down, only for the referee to rule out the score for a forward pass - a decision met with total disbelief from the home team. The visitors held on for an unlikely win after overturning a 17 point halftime deficit.

Not an afternoon Hyndland will look back on with much pride as they threw away the chance to record a much needed victory with a disappointing second half performance. With a free week next weekend, the team have a couple of important training sessions ahead to try and put right some of the mistakes made on Saturday.
