1st XI keep up good start with 11pt win over Triangle
By Luka Brooksby
Illingworth 169 for 6 beat Triangle 168 for 8 by four wickets
Illingworth maintained their unbeaten start to the season and leadership of the Premier Division with a tight home win against Triangle.
Batting first the visitors looked in a strong position at 88-2 with Nathan Madden leading the way with a well compiled 34, but, despite a fine innings from skipper Jack Gledhill who fell for 44 to spinner Matthew Watson, there was little in the way of support. a target of 168 looked a little under par, particularly as it had been enhanced by an uncharacteristically indifferent home fielding performance. Tom Watson was the pick of the home bowlers with 3-39 off his nine overs.
The visitors made Illingworth struggle all the way. Matty Smith, on his first appearance of the season, struck a useful 30 but none of the upper order managed much stay at the crease and at 88-6 were in deep trouble and with skipper Ben Robertshaw still in the pavilion nursing a sore dislocated finger incurred whilst fielding. Richard Turner with 3-38 and Nathan Madden 2-31 did most of the early damage but they couldn't dislodge an excellent 7th wicket partnership of 81 with Luke Brooksby and Jamie Moorhouse producing a very mature batting display with both finishing on 41 to grab the valuable points with 2 overs to spare.
