Illingworth maintained their leadership of the Halifax Premier League with a convincing win at home to struggling Sowerby St Peters.
Put into bat, the home side got off to a good start with openers Callum Cook 48 and Matty Smith 39 putting on 61 for the opening partnership. Hamza Mehmood kept up the momentum with 54 off 64 balls and at 138-1 a large target looked in prospect only for Illingworth to lose their way. Sowerby's Gavin Hayes led the fightback with 5-44 as the North Halifax men were pegged back losing 7 wickets for just 55 and all out for 225 in the 44th over.
This proved far too strong for Sowerby as they struggled from the off with the pace and movement generated by the Illingworth attack. Luke Brooksby in a blistering display removed the heart of the Sowerby batting with 4-33, all clean bowled and with strong support from Jamie Moorhouse 3-28 the visitors slumped to 78 all out with Ben Watkins top scoring with 25 and only two other batters reaching double figures.
