Premier League leaders Illingworth had a fright at relegation haunted SBCI before scraping through by two wickets to maintain their sixteen point lead. The visitors had the men at the Astleys in trouble at 2-2 but a century partnership between Lewis Firth 63 and Adam Fawcett 30 brought the home men back in the picture before slow man Matthew Watson 5-41 and Luke Brooksby 5-43 caused them to lose their last eight wickets for just 42 runs as they posted a less than par score at 144.
The visitors got off to the worst possible start and at 6-4 SBCI fancied their chances of a big upset. Hamza Mehmood led a recovery with 47 and Veryan Brooksby (49) looked to be taking the game the visitors way but, when Brooksby departed at 107-7, the pendulum swung again towards the home side. Fortunately for the visitors, the Illingworth tail was up to the task with eight overs to spare.
