A late game under lights

20th October 2018
Saffron Walden 1st team 0 - Ipswich 1st team 5

Scorers (Macauley, Cutting x2, Fry, Wiid)

Ipswich traveled to Saffron Walden for a late push back under lights, with the away side looking to bounce back from last week's 5-2 defeat to Harleston Magpies.

Ipswich started as the stronger team, creating good goal scoring chances only to be missed or saved by the home goalkeeper.
Ipswich took the lead midway through the 1st half when Southgate found Glading at the top of the oppositions ,D who managed to pass the ball over the defender's stick to Macauley, who had the composure to control the ball round the rushing goalkeeper and into the empty goal.

Ipswich continued to dominate but Saffron Walden created a couple of chances, one from an aerial ball to a striker who had a 1v1 against Hardwick who managed to smother the ball, losing it temporally, before clearing the danger. Another came from a couple of short corners which the Ipswich defence dealt with comfortably.

Ipswich finally doubled their lead late in the 2nd half with Haley crossing the ball from a wide left hand position across the Saffron Walden D for Cutting to deflect in the goal, leaving the goalkeeper with no chance. This took us to half time with Ipswich leading 2-0

Saffron Walden started the 2nd half on the front foot almost getting to the Ipswich D from the push back but with some clean tackling, the Ipswich defence, kept them at bay. Ipswich began to create pressure on the home team causing them to make mistakes, one leading to an Ipswich midfielder to put a ball through to Girling who took it wide down to the base line and crossing the ball through the Saffron Walden defense for Cutting to smash into the net of goal for his 2nd goal of the game.

Ipswich continued to create chances with Philip finding Glading at the far post who failed to put the ball into the goal. Philip continued to cause Saffron Walden all sorts of trouble when he found Fry who put Ipswich 4-0 up by roofing the ball into the goal. Saffron Walden bruised and battered conceded a penalty corner late in the game, when Cook used his skill to create a foul in the circle for Ipswich’s 2nd corner of the game. With no mistakes this time, Wiid fired it into the right hand side of the goal to see Ipswich win 5-0 away from home at the final whistle.

Ipswich travel down the A12 to Chelmsford in search of a 2nd win away from home this weekend.
