Ipswich Seven Ladies 3s went into battle on Saturday against local rivals IES Ladies 2s hoping to turn the tables on the previous loss to them in the first half of the season. A few nerves in the changing room coupled with an extra scattering of post Christmas calories here and there were well channeled into what proved to be one of the team’s best performances of the season to date. Captain Stens has asked for nothing more than 100% fight and commitment and that is most certainly what she got. Determined not to fall to IES a second time, and to make hugely welcome sideline supporter Sue Whiting proud, the girls played some superb flowing hockey that was a joy for anyone to watch. Passing and movement on and off the ball was sublime and communication was excellent. The familiar balance in this side of older experienced players and young up and coming talents was the perfect combination throughout the team and was evident in the scoring with veteran player Vic Clement nabbing the first goal with a reverse stick flick and teenager Kiya smashing the second goal in from a perfectly struck short corner to secure a 2-0 win for the team. While the defence were busy at times Ipswich goalkeeper was barely troubled with IES only making it in Ipswich’s defensive D twice in the whole game. It’s sure to say Skip Stens and Coach Langers were very happy with the performance and result.
