Ipswich started well with a strong midfield of joint players of the match Sophie Sexton and Emma Rix with returning Captain Lucy Dunnett making great rotations and distributing the ball to the forwards.
With Ipswich on top, the defence consisting of joint player of the match Ellie Scott, Kat Blake and Kim Wood could relax and play the ball confidently around the back allowing the forwards to make great leads. Ipswich ramped up the pressure and went into halftime the dominant team.
Forwards Lizzy Wheelhouse, Kate Wingar and Frankie Rogers ran riot upfront, forcing saves by the Horsham keeper. It was an Ipswich PC which saw Maddy Barnes score the teams first goal of the season, a shot into the bottom corner beating the diving keeper.
But it was just before the final quarter when Horsham took their chance for a PC goal, placing the ball past Ipswich keeper Ali Barham, into the net.
Ipswich started the fourth quarter going for the win after a tactical change up front. But possession was squandered in midfield and defence which saw Ipswich concede a PC, with Horsham taking the lead.
In the dying minutes of the game, Horsham sealed the match winning a PS which was placed high into the goal and secured the three points with a 3-1 win.
Ipswich were devastated to have squandered a lead, but pleased to have scored their first goal. The girls look to take this into next weeks game against Canterbury 2s.
