Ipswich M3 secured the first victory of the season in somewhat fortuitous fashion, coming back from 2-1 down to win 3-2. The key moment was when the Magpies, leading 2-1, somehow managed to stop a goal bound shot from their own PC with a back stick; Ipswich raced up the other end with Baz finishing fantastically by roofing the ball into the top corner. A minute later Ipswich took the lead with another goal-bound shot from Baz being deflected to Dan Griffin to score - a worthy mention to the umpire for playing the advantage and not giving the flick although the Magpies were not that impressed.
The game had started very evenly with good possession secured by the sage midfield of James Wrinch and Stephen Askins being distributed across the pitch. A moment of madness at a PC let the Magpies open the scoring with the defensive unit still debating who was doing what as the ball hit the backboard! Ipswich quickly got back into the game with Louis and Mike working hard down the right providing good width for Baz and Dan to work into however at half time the score remained 0-1 to the visitors.
The second half began ignominiously for the home team with Jack called upon to make a number of good saves at the visitors attacked in waves, however after yet another PC Ipwsich broke quickly before Dan swept in the equaliser against the run of play after good work down the right. Harleston regained the lead almost immediately from another PC via their giant former England International, before the comedy PC moment led to Ipswich equalising then taking the lead. The defence and midfield then worked hard to see the game out but there was certainly a sense of relief as the final whistle was blown. Still, a victory is a victory.
