A Spirited Performance by YM Yawks

Unfortunately the YM Hawks' squad had been depleted by some of their best players stepping up to the first team to cover for unavailable players.
This shortfall resulted in a quantity of new players being drafted in at short notice for a quick run though before the game.

Things started well though and Kaselle Lee burst through the Halstead defence in the first quarter, brushing off tackles with ease. Lee Ellison then converted for YM to go 7:0 up.

Sadly Alex Wellum's twinge that he had felt during the warm up became debilitating and he came off as the first of YM's injuries.
He was replaced in the scrum by Ryan Waugh for his very first game of rugby!

Despite a weakened scrum, the game was still quite evenly balanced although Halstead did manage to score a converted try to level the scores. The score at half time was 7:7

In the second half Kaselle once again showed his brilliance, slicing almost unopposed through the Halstead defence. This time the try wasn't converted.

As the game progressed, YM incurred two further injuries to key players and looked to be down to 14 men at the 60 minute mark.
However, Jack Bennett came to the rescue and exchanged his spectator’s pint for a pair of player’s boots to enable YM to complete the game with 15 men.

YM did a good job of soaking up the pressure from Halstead but they breach the defence to gain a bonus point win with a final score of 12:36

YM should be very proud of the performance they put up against a mature 1st team and the results are certain to improve as the new players become aquainted with the team.
