Although the scoreline might suggest otherwise, this was a greatly improved performance from the Hawks compared with their previous outing against Felixstowe.

The hosts soon had points on the board from an early try and then proceeded to score a further two tries despite YM having a good share of the possession.

It could be seen that YM’s moves from the training pitch were starting to have the desired impact on the field though and after a good period of possession, Barrie Alford was able to cross for YM. This was successfully converted by Ian Girling despite a strong cross wind.
A further penalty scored by Ian Girling left the score at 17-10 at half time and YM were very much in the game.

Although YM had plenty of possession and territory in the second half, they failed to improve on the first half’s points. This was largely due to the succession of injuries to players and then having to re-introduce injured players back into the game.
Hadleigh’s backs took advantage of this and their quick hands and feet enabled them to breech YM defence on a number of occasions.

Whist this was a heavy defeat for YM, it was a surprisingly positive experience for the team and there is a degree of measured confidence that wins will return to them soon.
