IRLAM FC manager Michael Dodd gives his thoughts on today's game

IRLAM FC manager Michael Dodd gives his thoughts ahead of today's Prem Division tie at home to 1874 Northwich

Hello and welcome to today’s Premier Division tie against 1874 Northwich.

Our opponents today sit in 10th position and our aim at this point, is to try and catch them and replace them in the top half.Currently sitting in 13th spot, a win today is paramount if we want to achieve that top-half finish. An 1874 win would increase the gap and most likely leave us accepting a bottom half finish.
It is quite disappointing for me to say that! We have had an unbelievably successful season in terms of the cup runs and the club profile they helped build. However we have not been good enough in the league and we can even narrow that right down to not being good enough at home! Our away record is brilliant and right up there with the best in the division, but we haven’t been able to get the points on the board at the Ambitek. It’s a strange situation and one which I and the staff have tried to get our heads round all season.
We have lost crucial points against the bottom sides; winning 1 and losing 5 of our 6 games against the current bottom 3! These 15 points would see us in 5th place. We should be a lot closer than we are.
On a more positive note - we seem to raise our game against the better sides and 1874 are certainly one of them. We recorded a brilliant 4-2 win at their place a few months back and hopefully we can come out on top again today. Their managers Wayne Goodison and Paul Bowyer are proper football people and Wayne in particular was a good sounding board for me earlier in the season during our FA Vase run; as we discussed 1874’s run to the semi-finals just last season.
We come into the game with a win and a loss in our last 2 games; a ‘pass-perfect’ performance away at Charnock Richard saw us emerge as 3-1 winners, before a scrappy game last week against West Didsbury saw us eventually go down 3-2 here at home.
We have to now remember how good we are as a group and put it out there onto the pitch. Our final 4 games are extremely tough but that is why we play at this level, to play against the best players we possibly can. We are more than capable of mixing it with anyone and hopefully we can pick up some valuable points between now and the 27th April.

Here’s to all three points.
