Jake makes it to the ground, just!
Despite a slow drive from Irlam for Jake and his passengers, Irlam were anything but as they picked up a comfortable 3 points against a tough and physical Barnton youth side.
The hosts started at a high tempo, pressing the Irlam players hard and causing the Irlam players to rush some of their early possession. Despite this Irlam created a number of nearly chances but the final ball failing to find the right target. As the game reached the mid-way point in the first half the Barnton No7 was lucky not be shown a red card for a very late challenge on Murphy. Soon after Irlam pressure won a corner which Main played in with pace to find Nixon rising at the far post to guide his header across the keeper back the way it came and into the corner of the goal. This was a deserved goal and gave Irlam a lift from the restart. With 40 minutes on the clock the Barnton No7 again late and high on a Irlam player, a tackle that could again have been a straight red was let off without a caution or a warning to the dismay of most people in the ground. The half finished with Irlam in control if only with a slender lead. The Irlam back line was in full control throughout the half, Kpohomouh standing out at centre half.
The second period followed the first one with Irlam in control and the hosts despite being behind and up against a good Irlam side continuing to work hard and remain fully committed. With 10 minutes of the second period gone, a long ball proved to confuse the Barnton keeper and centre half and allowed Bolton to nip in, take the ball calmly round them both and run it into the empty net, a deserved second for Irlam. With a two goal cushion Irlam made a number of changes, one of the changes Orrell would get on the end of a cross to score Irlam's third goal and seal the points and a good all round performance.
The young players are improving all the time and are playing fantastic football, long may it continue...
MOM, J Kpohomouh, another superb display from the Irlam centre half.
