Colne FC 0 - Irlam FC 5
By J Main
Jordan makes the difference
Irlam FC U18's traveled to Colne FC with a slightly depleted squad but confident to keep their winning form going. However, they didn't expect to find the Colne goal keeper in such fine form. From the first whistle Irlam were on the front foot and created a chance within 40 seconds, Pollitt unlucky not to score when latching on to a Nixon through ball, it was the first of what would be 8 goal saving saves from the Colne keeper in the first 25 minutes.
The young Irlam players continued to apply pressure with some fantastic football being played throughout the team and further chances would fall to Main-Quinn, Orrell, Main and Nixon, all of which the Colne keeper managed to keep out. However, just pat the midway point of the half, Main-Quinn collected the ball to the left of the penalty box before taking an early shot across the keeper which found its way into the far corner with the help of a slight deflection, it seemed this would be the only way Irlam would score. The half continued to be all Irlam with the visitors restricted to the odd break which was dealt with comfortably by Haslam and Kpohomough in the centre of the Irlam defense.
HT 0 - 1
The second period would start in a similar pattern to the first, Irlam pressing and playing some excellent football but unable to find another goal. Nixon and Lee were in full control of the midfield and excellent in possession which slowly began to tell. A ball out of midfield found Main who beat the Colne defense and pulled the ball back to the arriving Nixon who did the rest with a great first time finish. This was the goal Irlam needed and soon after the introduction of Jordan would turn the game completely in Irlam's favour. Nixon finding Jordan with a brilliant pass with Jordan to good for the Colne defense beating twio players before pulling the ball back to Main who had the simple task of firing home from 6 yards. Only a few minutes later the same combination would again prove the difference, Jordan receiving the ball out on Irlam's left, beating three Colne defenders before finding Main who calmly fired the ball into the roof of the net for his second. Despite a number of other chances it looked like the scoring was finished, until Main took the ball from a Colne defender, taking the ball into the area and beating the Colne keeper to score his third and Irlam's fifth to finish the game.
Overall a solid performance , however, Jordan was the difference in the second half, Colne not able to handle him on the day.
