One Final Secure.

Ivybridge extended their long unbeaten record with a comfortable win against Okehampton.

On conditions a bit different to a fortnight ago Ivybridge played with strength speed and power and after 6 minutes Adam Bradley opened the scoring with a simple penalty in front of the posts. A catch and drive from the Ivybridge pack allowed Ivybridge to increase their lead a few minutes later with No 8 Angus Brown scoring. From the resulting kick off Man of the match Andy Chesters caught the ball and beat several advancing Okehampton players. Chesters got tackled a few yards out from the try line but had enough energy to quickly off load to the support runner Cameron Setter. Just before the half time whistle Captain Matt Ash showed a turn of speed to score under the posts which Adam Bradley converted to make the half time score 20/0.

It was over heard by the Ivybridge linesman comments from the Okehapton players that the Ivybridge could not keep the pace they were playing in the 2nd half and that Ivybridge would tire. How wrong they were. Ivybridge have a strong squad and were able to rotate their replacements and continues to play with flare and confidence respected by the home crowd scoring another six tries in the 2nd half. Tries from Henri Slade, Matt Lamont x2, Matt Daymont, Andy Chesters and Hayden Coles and with conversions from Adam Bradley x 4 and one from Henry Slade finished Okehampton off.

In fact about 20 mintues before full time Okes coach Andy Ewens was heard to offer a pint for them all if they managed to score, which brought about a renewed attack but it wasn't meant to be, but they never gave up trying and all credit to them.

As Ivybridge scored their last try referee Paddy Dummet told the Okehampton lads the game was over and one of them comment, 'they are bloody awesome'!

Ivybridge will now meet the winners of Exeter Chiefs or Torquay on Saturday 1st May to retain the cup they won for the first time in the clubs history last year.
Ivybridge u19's meet Hornets from Weston in the National Cup Semi final next Saturday 17th April KO 2.30pm. I recently read in the Bristol paper that they believe we are an Academy team for the area and that Hornets were the only CLUB side left in the competition. This is completely wrong as the majority of Ivybridge Colts players have played for the club from a very young age and are all local lads. This in comparison to the other semi final between Bedford Blues and Moseley who are both Academy teams bringing in the best players from various teams and locations.
