The battle has already begun to try to take the prestigious CEMEX Man of Concrete away from current holder Derek Worthington, who was also voted the North East Rugby League Player of the Year 2017.
The Man of Concrete award is presented to the player receiving the most Player of the Year nominations from his fellow Vikings, both players and staff.
The "award" which is made of concrete, was presented to the club by sponsors CEMEX and re-designed and painted by head coach George Taylor, with finishing touches of the players name and number on the rear of the shirt. "DEKKA 9"
With the added incentive of a free Nandos meal for the Vikings top player each week competition for the award is already heating up, with all players efforts being noted in the preseason "Beastings" currently taking place at Unit 29.
The early signs for the season are looking good and it is hoped that this early enthusiasm and drive continues into the playing season.
