The latest news from the club re Sunday Rugby

What a fantastic start to the 2020/21 season albeit one of the most unusual seasons we have had at King's. We have welcomed many current players back and it has been great to see so many new children coming out and enjoying their rugby. Apart from one notable exception the weather has been excellent and, touch wood, we hope for more of the same in the run up to Christmas.

Usually we would have a gathering on the pitch before training to provide an update on information. But as that's not currently possible please carefully read the messages below.

The club will be closed on October 25 for half-term. Training will resume as normal on November 1st.

Each age group has its own WhatsApp group which is used to send out information from the club. Although there are currently no fixtures or festivals to organise there are still important messages around what dates we are holding our sessions and any last-minute variations, for example due to bad weather. Please get in contact with the club (details are below) if you are not on any group and we can arrange for you to be added.

A big thank you to all of you who have supported the club this season by paying a subscription and filling out the requisite paperwork. As COVID-19 is curtailing many other sources of income, subscriptions have become an increasingly important way to help keep the club operating.

Subscription forms are available at the club during training sessions and it is possible to make a card payment using the tills or via online transfer. Please make sure your membership and details are up to date. Your information is held on the club’s database and on the website and by the RFU.

Our club is always looking to recruit new players. We are fortunate to have a large playing area available – especially advantageous in the current environment. Please spread the word with school-mates and other friends to encourage as many new joiners as possible to come down and try rugby at King’s. We are especially looking for players in U7 (school year 2) and U10 (year 5) but really all age groups will welcome any newcomers.

King's Rugby Minis is run by volunteers both on and off the pitch. We currently have an excellent group of coaches but of course we are always looking out for anyone else who would like to get involved. Off the pitch we are also seeking someone to help out with administration. The duties are light; mainly sending a few emails and collating responses. Please get in touch if you would like to help out in any capacity.

London has moved from COVID alert level medium to high. The new guidelines state "exercise classes and organised sport can continue to take place outdoors" which means the club can carry on with training sessions as we have been doing so far, following rugby-specific guidance from the RFU. Clearly the situation is evolving and we as a club will continue to monitor and make adjustments as needed. It's as important as ever that parents continue to follow social distancing on the touch line.

A reminder of COVID guidelines at King's Rugby Minis:

  • If you or anyone in your household is experiencing coronavirus symptoms then please do not come to the club (see guidance here:

  • Each child should bring their own water bottle and not share it with others.

  • Please ensure children come to training already wearing kit as the changing rooms will be closed.

  • There will be a one-way system in place for those who need to visit the bathroom: please follow the signs.

  • Register your names and contact details with each age group so that you can be traced if it proves necessary.

  • Use of hand sanitiser: please ensure children have sanatised their hands before the training session begins. Sanatiser gel will be available at the club but please bring your own to ease congestion if possible.

  • Please keep yourselves 2m apart on the touchlines

Autumn Internationals: While much of club rugby remains dormant it is a different story at international level with a plethora of fixtures this Autumn including the expanded eight nations. The club is keen to host viewings of select matches although clearly this will be subject to following the relevant COVID guidelines. Please let me know if interested – Fiji fans especially welcome!

Finally, a big thank you to all volunteers for their work on getting the season underway, and to all parents and carers for bringing children down on a Sunday morning.
