As the title suggests....

Attached a scanned version of the end of season wrap - it is just legible if you squint a bit and tilt your head - from 1979, a time when:-

  • James Callaghan was UK Prime Minister
  • Bill Beaumont was England Rugby captain
  • A litre of petrol (4 star) was 22p
  • A First Class stamp was 10p
  • Leicester won the John Player Cup (defeating Moseley 15-12)
  • The Vauxhall Astra was launched
  • Mother Teresa won the Nobel Peace Prize
  • John 'Duke' Wayne died
  • Brian O'Driscoll was born
  • Superman was the highest grossing film

Meanwhile at King's:-

  • The five Senior sides managed 118 games between them (winning 72)
  • Mike Tampin was club captain
  • Andy Todd was 2XV skipper
  • Duncan Young and Andy Lutley led the 3XV
  • Tony Banks was at the helm for the 4XV
  • John Hole scored 23 tries for the 2XV
  • Gevery-Chambertin from the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region in eastern France were the Easter tourists
  • Bob Hiller was turning out for the Vets
  • Clive Barnett edited the newsletter
  • The club supper was at The Crown, Morden and cost £5

Nostalgia certainly isn't what it used to be.
