Kings U12s drop heartbreaker

3 inches of mud greeted an injury-depleted Kings U12 squad in the quarterfinals of the Surrey RFU Waterfall Cup against Dorking. Kings dominated possession in the first half behind Joven's tireless running with the ball; but Dorking's magnificent try line defence kept the boys off the scoreboard. Completely against the run of play Dorking scored first as the half drew to a close, recovering a precision kick from well inside their half of the pitch. Kings rallied, pushing the ball back, and with the last phase of the half (at the fifth time of asking), Nick H pushed through to equalise.

The second half started brightly, Benjy scored from long range twice in quick succession putting Kings up 3-1. As the half wore on, however, fatigue in increasingly difficult conditions began to take its toll. Dorking got one back, then another against a Kings squad that didn't have a single substitute available. In the dying moments, Dorking completed the comeback to take home the result.

The boys acquitted themselves magnificently in defeat though, showing heart and determination throughout. They have come together brilliantly in 2019 and our opponents in the rest of the tournament should be ready for a fight.
