Ks 0-2 for the season as Stamford College OBs hold out for win

Kempston looked to bounce back from last weekends trip to Sileby as Stamford College OBs were welcomed to Cutler Hammer.

In a match that neither team really took control, a lot of points were left out on the field. The visitors looked to use strong runners to test out the Ks midfield early on and were able to gradually make yards. Though it was Kempston who scored first through a Rob Campbell penalty following a couple of infringements in front of the posts.

Stamford College's fly half teased the Ks midfield which allowed their forwards to work their way into the Kempston 22. After winning a few penalties and turning down a shot at goal, it was an old school training ground move that proved fruitful with a score near the posts. Although Ks tried to get back ahead it was the visitors who scored again, this time a simple a dummy fooled the defence and a seven-pointer followed.

Stamford pressed further to increase their lead but it was looped pass that was interception by Campbell, who proceeded to run in from 80m and then convert.

Half Time: 10-12

The second half was again full of missed opportunities as Kempston used their bench to get back into the match. Chances came and went and Stamford College OBs held firm and had chances themselves.

Late on a covering tackle was deemed high as Kempston looked like scoring, a potential try or penalty try went begging. The very next play another penalty was awarded for tackling a player without the ball, which was arguably a yellow card. The resulting penalty allowed Campbell, also the fouled player, a shot at goal but the attempt pulled just wide.

Kempston will be disappointed to not pick up the win and their first of the campaign, while Stamford College OBs move to 1-1 for the season.

A week off follows before Kempston face a trip to Thorney on 29 September.
