The 2nd staging of The Almost 8 again had the organising team put on a great event, with near ideal weather conditions for the runners. This year saw the event grow to 143 finishers compared to 98 last year.
From the start the battle commenced with last years’ winner Dan Kimber from KSAC and Pravesh Patel from Wolverhampton & Bilston. They were locked together all the way to the top of the climb until Pravesh opened a small gap on Burlish Top near to halfway. The gap remained to the end with the line being crossed in 28-56 with 29-07 for 2nd. In 3rd place & 1st Vet 50 was Gary Davies of Dudley Kingswinford in 30-10.
Other Veteran catagories were claimed by Steven Smith, 1st V40 (as last year) in 32-40, Trevor McGill V55 33-36 just ahead of Peter Cornish V60 in 33-40.
1st lady was Sharron Manders (Vet 50) in an excellent time of 33-55. Sam Anderson came in 2nd with 37-07 & Ruth Hayes 3rd in 37-42.
The large turnout from Dudley Kingswinford RC saw them rewarded with both the mens and ladies team prizes. With Gary Davies, Jonny Pearce, Mark Garrett & Serjei Ljubownikow and Jacqueline Elson-Whittaker, Jane Campbell & Paula Alder completing the teams.
Thank you to everyone involved in organising the event and to all the runners for making the 2nd Almost 8 a success.
