The season started yesterday afternoon with Kidlington FC entertaining Daventry FC at Yarnton Road Stadium

Daventry are new to the Southern League this season after promotion from the United Counties Premier Division whilst Kidlington had 6 debutantes in their squad.

The game was a fairly cagey affair in a first half that was virtually devoid of goalmouth incident, however an acrobatic leap and overhead attempt by Declan Benjamin in the 35th minute nearly saw the Greens take the lead, but for a fine save from visiting keeper Justin Cerga.
The second half was certainly more entertaining with chances a plenty at both ends, though most of these attempts were off target. A second booking for Kidlington's Jacob Blackstock in the 75th minute saw the player dismissed, With the Greens now down to 10 men the visitors sensed their chance and upped the anti pushing an extra player forward. Although the game still looked to be spiraling toward an honorable 0-0 stalemate, Taylor Orazs had other ideas, right on 90 minutes the wide man fired in a fierce shot, from the edge of the box, which beat keeper Christian Laurence and Daventry had their first win.
With a few players still to come into the squad Kidlington Manager Julian McCalmon was not to disheartened as generally his team had down quite well, if not in front of goal!
