Olly Bould reports on a frustrating afternoon for Kidsgrove.

Kidsgrove continue their unbeaten league start as they were held to a 1-1 draw away at local rivals Newcastle Town.

It couldn’t have been a better start for Kidsgrove as seven minutes in, Kyle Diskin picks up the ball and plays a good ball into the box that takes a touch of a Newcastle town player and ends up in the back of the net.

Kidsgrove continued to dominate the first half, the best chances fell to Kingsley Adu-Gyamfi, the first was an overhead kick that was hit with good power, but it went straight into the hands of the Newcastle keeper. The next chance, he was played through one on one with the keeper who rushed out, Adu-Gyamfi lobs it over the keeper but it bounces just wide.

Newcastle took two minutes after the break to equalize, when a free kick was played into the Kidsgrove box and James Askey found himself with a free header as he glanced it in for 1-1.

After this goal, the game turned abit scrappy. Both sides had chances to go into the lead but neither side had the end product to put their team Infront. The game was getting nervy for both sides, especially right at the depth of the game as Kidsgrove’s keeper Thomas Booth was sent off as he was deemed to stop a goalscoring opportunity.

With no substitutes left, Oliver Jepson had to go into goal for the last moments as Newcastle had a dangerous free kick right on the edge of the box. The free kick was poor and after a kick up the pitch by Jepson the full-time whistle went and the points were shared.

There’s no game this Saturday for Kidsgrove so we will have a break before visiting another local rival Leek Town in the league, Tuesday 6th September, Harrison Park, 7:45pm Kick Off.
