Austin and Davidson understand that to win more games the team need to be more clinical in attack and defence.

Manger Ryan Austin, understands that his team need to turn good performances in to wins as Kidsgrove Athletic lose 2-0 to league leaders Shaw Lane AFC at The Novus Stadium.

The home side went behind after just two minutes to a penalty converted by Spencer Harris.

Austin commented: “It was an awful start. I didn’t have a great view of the incident, but Leon (Ashman) has held his hands up and said that it was a penalty, so we can’t argue.

“These things happen in football matches. We wanted to try and pin them back and make the day nervous for them, but we allowed them to go in front after two minutes, helping them to settle in to the game which obviously wasn’t ideal.”

Losing to the soon to be champions, is no disgrace and Austin is well aware of that.

“It was a big occasion, the fans came out and we were competitive for most of the game. They are probably going to go on and win the league, so we have to take some positives out of it.

“It sounds a bit repetitive now, we keep saying that we are playing well but end up losing football matches which is a bad habit to get in to. We need to find a way of playing well alongside getting a positive result from the match. But it’s definitely not all negatives from today.”

Right back, Ross Davidson believes his side need to be more clinical going in to the remaining game of the season away to Rugby Town.

“We managed to put Shaw Lane under a lot of pressure throughout the game but we just couldn’t get that goal.

“We play some good football but we are just not as clinical at the moment and that’s in both boxes; whether we have to make clearances and blocks or whether it be trying to get a goal.”

Gavin Allott sealed the win for the visitors after beating the Grove defensive line and slotting the ball in to the back of the net. Austin is keen to stop his team from losing concentration at important stages of the match.

“It has happened too many times this season when we are in the ascendancy in a football match and we just switch off defensively.

"I am partly to blame as I am part of the back four, but we just conceded a sloppy goal which gives the opposition momentum. Unfortunately their second killed the game.”

Austin wants his team to finish the season on a high and gather a little bit of momentum going in to next season.

“The main thing now is that we go to Rugby Town and win. We don’t want to take a five game losing streak in to next season.

“We want to win every football match, we have got to pull ourselves together and not feel sorry for ourselves. We will train this week and look forward to the game on Saturday.”

Kidsgrove Athletic will face Rugby Town in the final match of the season at Butlin road, 3pm kick-off.
