Kirkstyle got their season off to an impressive start with a dominant 7 wicket win
After last weeks wash out Kirkstyle got their season off to an impressive start with a dominant 7 wicket win over Daksh Kingholm at Scott Ellis Park.
After winning the toss new captain Gareth Walsh had no hesitation in opting to bowl in favourable conditions. Opening bowlers Blair Dearie (1 for 17) & Colin Doyle (2 for 13) bowled well in tandem restricting Kingholm to 7 runs in the first 8 overs. Debutants Ameer Abassi (1 for 20) & Michael Rice (1 for 13) then picked up a wicket a piece as they continued to apply pressure to the batsmen. Alun Johnstone rolled back the years with a vintage display of spin bowling to return figures of 1 for 12 from his 7 overs. After 40 overs the away side were restricted to 76 for 6 with no bowler giving anything away and some superb work behind the stumps with Jack James Brian Hurford taking a catch and a stumping and Captain Walsh taking a diving catch at first slip.
The run chase got off to a good start with Sandeep Dhaliwal (36) pulling to the rope at will and Fraser Mclaren (16 no) comfortably getting Kirkstyle over the line with the loss of just 3 wickets in the 20th over.
An impressive start to the season for Kirkstyle in a game played in the right spirit that made for a good day.
Kirkstyle travel to Glasgow South next week looking to follow up on this weeks excellent team performance.
