Top of table clash
By Steven Mckay
Kirkstyle come out on top. .
Kirkstyle hosted Bees in a top of the table Division 4 clash at Scott Ellis Park.
Having won the toss (again) Kirkstyle opted to have a bowl on a fantastically prepared pitch.
Opening pair Alexander Gibson
( 1-27) & Colin Doyle
(0-16) kept things very tight bowling probing lines which the Bees openers struggled to get away.
Bees reached the drinks break at 46-1 with Kirkstyle getting through 20 overs in 1 hour.
After the break Bees looked to push the score on but found it difficult against the control of Steven McKay
(0-19) & Fraser Mclaren
Pick of the bowlers was Michael rice
bowling at the death and finishing with figures of 3-20 from his 7 overs.
The bowlers were backed up by some excellent fielding with Sandeep Dhaliwal
taking a good catch at 2nd slip, Gareth Walsh
added a run out to his running catch on the boundary.
Bees finished on 121 for 7 from their 40 overs.
Kirkstyle got off to a shaky start losing Mclaren & Dhaliwal cheaply.
Captain Walsh (17) & Alun Johnstone
(14) steadied the ship with a 30 run partnership.
Walsh then fell trying to hit the young spinner back to Glasgow.
Drew Campbell came to the crease and the 2 wily veterans nudged and nurdled the score up past the halfway mark.
When Johnstone fell Mckay joined Drew Campbell and they seamlessly moved the score towards the target offering no chances along the way.
With 3 overs to go Steve Mckay sealed a 6 wicket victory for Kirkstyle finishing on 28 not out with Campbell 26 not out at the other end.
Next week sees us travel to Inverclyde hoping to make it 5 wins from 5.
The joint man of the match award went to Mikey Rice & Steve Mckay.
