King Cross Loose out to a well drilled and big Newsome panthers team in wild conditions

King cross under 7's were on the road again this Sunday, this time it was a shorter journey to Huddersfield to play Newsome Panthers. The Panthers play on top of a big hill and from the first whistle to the last the wind was blowing wildly all threw the game. Both teams deserved credit for playing in such conditions.
Newsome started the game and meant business from the off, running in a try on there first touch and it was clear to see they were a very fast, big and efficient team. King cross where struggling to make ground in the early exchanges as the Panthers line speed was very fast and there tackling hard, this didn't stop Marley Thacker and Jake Wadsworth from running just as hard as they always do as park tried to make inroads into the Panthers territory.
The Panthers though scored another two unanswered tries and where sending the ball out wide where they had very fast players as Ben Hall and Vaughan Hibbert were tackling well in the middle of the field in an effort to keep them out. Park were having a bit more luck with the ball on the restart and were now starting to break threw a few tackles and make decent ground, Ben Hall in particular was causing them problems with his angled running but the Panthers held there line well and scored another try on the turnover of possession. Finally park got off the mark, when Cohen Thomas went on a good weaving run which was followed up by Harvey Waddington Hirst taking the next drive in to take park close to the Panthers line, Next up was Jacob Smith who Side stepped his way over the line for a well worked try.
However The fightback was short lived as the panthers shipped the ball out wide once again and scored another try on the wing. With Half time approaching Park had a good spell with the ball which lead to there second try, Debutant Luke Wadsworth ran the ball in well to beat several defenders and took park deep into the panthers half, then older brother Jake Wadsworth followed up well with a strong drive and offload to Ben Hall who Finished off the Half with a great try. Half time score was 20-8 and the wild conditions were showing now sign of stopping as the second half kicked off. The Panthers started the second half as they had the first with a try on there first touch, King cross almost replied straight away when Jacob Smith broke loose only to put the ball down on the wrong line much to his frustration!. Park were defending better in the second half, and held out the Panthers for the First time in a full set of tackles with Luke Wadsworth and Harvey Waddinton Hirst to the fore tackling well to keep them at bay. Then Park scored the next try when Vaughan Hibbert made great yardage on the first tackle bumping several Panthers boys off, the next two tackles saw Cohen Thomas and Marley Thacker get on a roll and take park over the halfway point. Then came strong running Ben Hall on the next tackle and his superb angled run saw him split the Panthers defence wide open to enable him to race clear for his second try of the match. There was no holding the Panthers out this time as there big pacey men once again broke down the fringes to score another try wide out, Park had there chances to score more tries with Marley Thacker and Vaughan Hibbert both going close but The Panthers tackled well to keep them out as they had all the game. Park never gave up and despite another Panthers try they where tackling much better this half with Jacob Smith as usual putting himself about the field to put in some great tackles, Big praise has to go to 6 year old Luke Wadsworth playing his first game who took some heavy tackles but kept coming for more and defended solidly himself. Parks never say die attitude payed off yet again with there final try of the match, Cohen Thomas and Jake Wadsworth made good inroads towards the line with some determined running which was finished off with Harvey Waddington Hirst bursting over the whitewash for a fine King Cross try. Newsome Panthers Scored the final try of the match to finish off a great game of rugby played in poor conditions, Final score Newsome Panthers 36 King Cross Park 16.

King Cross competed all the way through this game against a very fast and strong Newsome Panthers team, as always the boys gave there all and the game was a great one to watch. well done boys keep going.
