After 2 tough weekends against teams who were unsurprisingly stronger than King Cross Park's youthful A Team an easier ride was expected against mid-table Mirfield Stags A. Not to be as the Stags played the conditions much better than Park to build a 12 nil lead. King Cross showed signs of their ability in the first half with debutant centre Will Sutcliffe making repeated good yards down the right only for team mates to give possession away by trying to overplay.
In the second half the home team started to complete sets which built pressure and led to a penalty try after stand off Josh Robertshaw was impeded whilst touching down a great kick chase. This lifted Park who rattled Mirfield with enthusiastic defence and earned repeat sets. A simple two drives and smart handling by man of the match scrum half Jonny Binns found full back Dan Watkinson scoring out wide. Credit to the visitors who maintained their composure and stretched the lead.
