Pennine League Division 4 West match report - King Cross Park A 36 Boothtown Terriers A 10

With a bout of Terrapins flu, late arrivals, and a sniper on the grassy knoll, King Cross Park A Team took on their local rivals with 12 men for the majority of the game. Undeterred from the outset, man of the match second rower Ryan Barrett took it to Boothtown with powerful drives and crunching tackles. Scud missile snookerist second rower Allen Slingsby forced a turnover and smart handling found flying winger Henry Wilson who dived over for his first of what will be many open age tries. Targeted hard man prop Kieran Baxter sucked in the dopy opposition as a foil for late arrival slob prop Adam Beare to carry the ball from 90 yards off his own line for a 10 point lead. A lucky bounce from a kick allowed the Terriers a try before the gunman struck centre Owain Griffiths to bring an early half time.

Chatterbox Barrett continued to dominate and created space for stand off Josh Robertshaw to make it look easy with a try by the posts. The forwards set the platform this time for scrum half Danny Charlton to spot a gap to touchdown. The game was put beyond doubt when rubber man Baxter sidestepped over and prompted a celebration he will never forget. Robertshaw was now making breaks for fun and his offload led to one touch passes by Matt Brown and Charlton finding pacy centre Dan Watkinson searing in from 30 yards. The visitors eventually found a weakness in the Park defence and looked certain scorers only for Watkinson to appear from the other side of the pitch with a trademark try saver. Robertshaw started and finished the next try with an offload to Charlton who beat the first line, drew the full back, and returned the ball to his half back partner. Robertshaw converted his 4th goal of the afternoon and it took another kick and bounce for Boothtown to score a spawny consolation.

Tries - Henry Wilson, Adam Beare, Josh Robertshaw 2, Danny Charlton, Kieran Baxter, Dan Watkinson
Goals - Josh Robertshaw 4
Man of the match and Drink off winner - Ryan Barrett
