It was another tough day at the office for KS Cougars as they took to the pitch for their first home game of the season. They faced Winscombe, a team promoted this season and who, quite obviously, had a point to prove.

The Cougars were put under pressure from the get go as the well-drilled Winscombe team worked their set plays around the Cougar defence. Captain Fi Wadey commanded her back line well with Katie Merrin and Rachel Roberts able to hold the attack off, although eventually succumbing to the a quick slip through from the top of the D which allowed Winsombe to take the lead.

The Cougars worked to pull the game back, with halves Helen Symons and Gemma Samuel tracking up and down the pitch in what was turning into an end to end game.

Half time came and went with the Cougars still a goal down. But then the Cougars began to get their heads back in the game, playing some great through balls up the side-lines and linking up nicely to help work the ball up the pitch. Their efforts were rewarded 10 minutes before fulltime with Laura Kerly managing to slip one past the keeper.

In what was a tough game against a team who really did have a point to prove, the Cougars did well to dig in and earn themselves a draw. Woman of the match went to Helen Symons for a tireless performance working hard in both attack and defence.

Next week sees Cougars travel to Bournemouth.
