A long journey to Bournemouth sees the Cougars return with 3 points.

Travelling to Bournemouth KSHC 1s were expecting to face more than just the opposition on the hockey pitch, as storm Callum threatened to bring severe wind and rain. The Cougars however were treated to a sunny arrival in Bournemouth as they faced up to their opposition.

With both teams creating scoring opportunities within the first half, it was exciting first 35 minutes. Laura Kerly was denied a goal by the post and Keeper Erin Murgatroyd stayed calm in goal despite the ball becoming trapped in her pads before clearing wide.

With a calm team talk from captain Fi Wadey and vice Bex Darke, the Cougars knew this game was for the taking.

Very early into the second half the Cougars pounced. With a great ball from Emily Read, Chloe Harvey's initial shot was saved but her reactions were too quick for the Bournemouth keeper and the Cougars went one up.

The Cougars continued to work hard in the October sunshine and the continual work rate was enhanced by some very slick self substitutions.

After some pressure from the opposition the Cougars found a ball out of defence to Kerly. A beautiful pass out wide to Harvey dragged the Bournemouth defenders out.
Running down the wing Harvey swiftly slipped the ball back to Kerly who at the top of the D was able to slot the ball down the right hand side of the keeper.

Bournemouth fought back and the Cougars found themselves pinned in their half for the next 10 minutes. The defence worked tirelessly to maintain a clean sheet with more Great saves and clearances from Murgatroyd.

A spectacular sprint down the pitch from Lou Read split the Bournemouth defence; a fabulous look up and pin point pass from Read was picked up by Helen Symons in front of goal! The shot was haulted by a Bournemouth defender and the umpire gave a penalty flick.

Symons stepped up to the mark and took the flick, lifting the ball into the back of the net.

The Cougars were happy to come away with the 3 points after their long journey, which sees them go to 2nd in the league.

Charlotte Budgen was voted player of the match for her outstanding effort in both attack and midfield position.

A big thank you goes to Claude for his expert minibus driving skills.
