This report may differ in tone to previous, and I hope you all understand why. The final score was Aldershot & Fleet 12: Kingsclere 128.
Not many of the current squad were around during our 'Season of Hell' but the coaching team were and a couple of others. We have been on the receiving end of worse scorelines than that (134-10 if you're interested). And whilst it has been a positive boost to our points difference, it isn't going to make a huge impact on our season as a whole. Our opposition were a brand new team, only entered into the league two weeks before the season started. There were many things that impressed the coaches and travelling support though;
Head Coach's Five of the Best:
1) Attitude and Ethos - we lent the opposition two to start off with, and they ended with a fair few more than that to keep it as 15 v 15 the whole game.
2) MOTM Quintin Fraser who scored for both sides, put himself at fullback for the opposition, and whilst sporting what looked like an orange turban, spent 40 minutes ending his own players for fun. Superb approach and great example to all. Right amount of laddishness.
3) The approach of the whole team afterwards, mixing with the opposition and continuing to show genuine rugby behaviours.
4) Jake Hall who again popped up in multiple positions throughout the match in both forwards and backs and helped himself to 4 tries.
5) Whilst not a player, Jen Ashvvorth makes it onto the list. The last play of the game saw Johnboy Christian suffer a bad injury. An ambulance was called and Jen, who plays walking rugby for the club and is on the committee, stepped up to travelling with him in the ambulance, staying with him while he was being scanned, and then dropping him home (via the pub to see his team mates) making sure he was okay the whole time. We're delighted Johnboy is okay - thank you Jen for being a Kingsere RFC Superstar.
We remain top of the table, but have a couple of weeks off before travelling to Andover 3s for a tough encounter.
