Matt Rozier appointed Rugby Development Lead

The Kings Cross Steelers announce the signing of Matt Rozier as Rugby Development Lead for the 2022/23 season and beyond.

Following a season with many highs and lows, but lots of rugby for all four squads, the club continues to demonstrate its commitment to providing an excellent, enjoyable rugby experience for its members. Our mission has always been to play the best rugby we can, so it is vital we continue to challenge everyone to be the achieve this on and off the pitch, Matt will add to our great team to help deliver that.

Matt has a wealth of experience in rugby, having worked for England Rugby for the past nine years as a coach and coach educator. Matt will bring his experience of mentoring coaches and working on player development to strengthen our rugby offer, grow the skills of our coaches and in so, our players also.

Of the appointment Scott Marshall the clubs coaching coordinator said:
“We are really excited to be benefiting from Matt’s enthusiasm and experience. He’s uniquely placed to help us drive continued improvement to the KXS rugby experience.”

Matt Rozier said:
“I’m very excited to be joining the club in this fantastic new role. It’s the perfect opportunity for me to work with an excellent group of coaches, and a great bunch of players to enhance player experience and improve gameplay throughout the club. It’s a unique challenge working with adult players picking up a ball for the first time through to the 1st xv playing a good level of community rugby. I’m looking forward to working with the coaching team to implement a clear club structure that enables players to easily progress up through the various teams in the club. My personal objective is to create an environment where players and coaches enjoy their rugby, and can make the most of their own personal development, both on and off the field. It’s an exciting time to be part of the Kings Cross Steelers and I’m privileged that the club are keen for me to play a part in it!”

Club Chair Matt Webb said:
“I am delighted that we continue to show our commitment to rugby with this appointment, it is our bread and butter and what gets us up on a Saturday morning. We have a large bank of talented players and volunteer coaches with potential still to be realised, Matt will help to unlock this with his wealth of experience and passion.”

Matt will commence his work with the club this month to help build the preseason, which starts on the 7th June, in preparation for the clubs trip to Ottawa for the Bingham Cup in August and next season.
