On 11 February 2023, the Kings Cross Steelers RFC will be hosting an event in memoriam of Simon Dunn who was an integral member of the KXS 1st XV team between 2016-2018. Simon grew up playing rugby league and then converted to rugby union, playing for the Sydney Convicts for over 10 years. But those few years playing with us, the Steelers, left a mark on him that made him incredibly proud to have played for our club and contributed to the 1st XV undefeated season of 2017/2018. Something he continued to fondly talk about for years after and always expressed his love for the club and how much he missed playing with us.
Simon thrived on the pitch and during the post-game social (maybe, sometimes too much…ha!), where he definitely brought life to the party and a smile to your face. On the pitch, he was a beast to contend with and someone you didn’t want to be tackled by. Even to the point where a fellow rugby player even questioned if he was “really gay” because he tackled so hard. But off the pitch, he was as harmless as a butterfly with a sharp tongue that kept you on your toes.
Simon, unfortunately, passed away on 21 January 2023 at the incredibly young age of 35.
We would like to invite all that knew him, of him and even played on the pitch with him to join us on 11 February at West Ham where we will commemorate him. The two games at Home will be in memoriam of what Simon loved the most; competitive rugby and a sport that breaks down barriers. They kick off at 2pm. After which, we will have a few post-game speeches, including a few anecdotes to spark some laughter and hold up many drinks to his name to remember Simon for who he was. He’s a Steeler, he’s True Blue.
Please note that Simon’s funeral will be held:
