On Saturday 11th May, the Kings Cross Steelers were invited to take part in an interview live on Sky News. The club was represented by Chair, Gus Fraser, and Treasurer, Jono Elvin, who spoke about the club and the upcoming Bingham Cup in Rome - they also brought the Bingham Cup into the studio. Both Gus and Jono won the Bingham Cup in Ottawa in 2022 and will be part of the team seeking to win the cup for a second time.
You can watch the full interview here.
The Bingham Cup is the biennial world championships of gay and inclusive rugby. It is named after Mark Bingham, who played rugby for San Francisco Fog and helped set up Gotham Knights in New York City (both gay-inclusive teams). Mark was one of the passengers on board United flight 93 during the 9/11 attacks.
The club is taking six teams to Rome, playing across all tiers of the tournament, with over 180 people on the tour.
