KNRFC Festival proves a hit for the Rhinos Under 8's

Two Rhinos teams competed in the ten team tournament, with KN Red and KN Black in separate 'pools' of five teams.

The KN Red team got off to a flying start winning their first two games in style against Walsall and Worcester. Their excellent team-play, pace and defence was again too much for a spirited Bromsgrove side after the lunch break. The final pool match was to see the two top sides with maximum points compete, KN Reds fought well against a well-drilled Droitwich team who, after a close first half, began to pull away showing the form which made them the eventual tournament winners. KN Red played a BarBars team made of four Old Yards players and three Rhinos, a thrilling game ending in a 8-8 draw, with KN Red winning with an extra 'sudden-death' try to deservingly take the 3rd place Shield as their prize.

Despite the majority of the team not having played in a festival before, the KN Black team played exceptionally well, and could have won each one of their games. They played some terrific rugby, each opposing coach they played against praised their teamwork, skill and effort. Playing against the Bromsgrove first team, who went on to take overall 2nd place in the tournament, KN Blacks were 4-4 with less than a minute to go. With a little luck and some more favourable decisions, their points would have equalled their effort. They also had a very commendable 7-7 score against Claverdon in a thrilling free-flowing game. Well done to all, they did themselves proud!..

And so to did the three Rhinos who volunteered to make a Barbarians team with Old Yards. George, Nat and Ben, played a huge part in getting the 'BarBars' to the Shield final, only to be pipped by the KN Red team. Well done guys!
