The men's 1s started life in the North West hockey league division 2 with an away trip to Birkenhead.

The team started brightly in the first half with some crisp passing amongst the back line creating an early chance for Tom Howard to win a penalty corner. Unfortunately this chance was wasted and this would be the theme for the first half. Knutsford continued to maintain the pressure on Birkenhead deep into the first half put could not turn that pressure into a goal leaving the game goalless at half time.

Knutsford contiund the second half with some smart play with chances created for Harry Kenyon on debut who forced a good save out of the Birkenhead keeper. Ten minutes into the second half Knutsford were hit on the break with Birkenhead smartly rounding the keeper to take a 1-0 lead. Knutsford regrouped with further chances for Max Lawton to equalise but again the Birkenhead keeper was up to the task. Again on the break Birkenhead managed to win a penalty corner which was finished clinically with a drag flick to the keepers right. Now with an up hill battle Knutsford continued to press and again were caught on the break as Birkenhead made it 3-0.

Knutsford had all the chances to win this game but the clinical finishing from Birkenhead proved to be the difference. Knutsford entertain Winnington Park 2s next week at home.
