After an unfortunate and disappointing start to the season, Knutsford were keen to try to secure some points.

The game started well, with some excellent passing and movement from the Knutsford players, with the midfield of Katie Welch, Charlotte Chew and Sarah Fielding linking up well with the forward line of Elin Rees, Millie Fitton and Heather Langford to produce some good chances. Unfortunately, Knutsford were unable to convert any into goals and therefore went into half time with the score still at 0-0.

Knutsford went into the second half hoping to finally break down the Macclesfield defence and produce a goal. Disappointingly it was Macclesfield who eventually broke the deadlock with a well struck shot from the top of the D which was well saved by the Knutsford keeper, Lucy White, however a Macclesfield attacker followed up by getting the ball off the keepers pads and slotting the ball neatly into the bottom corner.

Knutsford were determined to readdress the balance and come back fighting. This they did shortly after Macclesfield had taken the lead, with an excellent pass from Suzi Hough which found Katie Price at the top of the D who smashed the ball into the back of the net.
Macclesfield continued to put pressure on the Knutsford defence and were awarded a number of penalty corners. The Knutsford defence did a fantastic job, preventing Macclesfield from scoring from any of their penalty corner routines.

Finally, a Macclesfield player managed to drive into the Knutsford D, take the ball around the keeper and shoot at goal. Knutsford’s left back, Amanda Rees, made an outstanding goal line save but a Macclesfield player was sprinting in to snatch the ball away from her and slot it into the goal. This meant that Macclesfield were 2-1 up and this is how the game ended.

Player of the Match was awarded to Suzi Hough for her timely tackling in defence and her distribution of the ball.
