Knutsfords efforts away from home were not enough to win over an in form Sandbach 3rds side who were buoyed by all 3 of their teams playing at home.
The first half started well for Knutsford but Sandbach forwards were wily and experienced and maintained strong discipline at the breakdown and Knutsford could not match it. Some late cancellations to the starting line up meant that key players Giles Robertson and Ed Snook were not present to provide a bit more energy and industry in defence.
Gianluca finished a superbly worked team try in the corner after strong phase play off a scrum saw Sam Bensky power through the middle and set up the backs for a well executed full backline try down the line.
Alex Malcolm scored from a genius kick through from flyhalf Docherty after using his footballing skills to nudge past the Sandbach fullback and beat the winger to the ball under the posts.
Stefano Spinola scored a superb try off a pack maul in the centre of the park and Sam Cook back from a few weeks off scored two on his return to take the fight to Sandbach in the 2nd half.
Sandbach and Knutsford went tit for tat with scores but Sandbach edged it and sets up for a strong encounter back at Knutsford in a few weeks time
