Lakenham's self-appointed media mogul and wannabe-retiree Jenna leads the valkyrie style war cry on the pitch and has been the proud recipient of the first yellow card of the season for Lakenham Ladies for two years running. The closet Number 6 is environmentally conscious too, saving her monthly hair-wash for the team showers after each home match so as not to waste water.
Name: Jenna Ray aka Scrappy
Position: 7 and only 7.
When did you start playing rugby and why?
I tried to play at school but the teachers said it was “too dangerous for girls” so out of spite I only looked for universities with women’s rugby teams.
Can you remember your first training session or game with Lakenham?
Yes, I turned up (having tried a couple of other teams) and the ladies were so warm and welcoming that I instantly felt at home.
What do you like to eat before a match?
I’ve really gotten into eating Weetabix and chicken (not together) for some fibre and protein.
How do you calm your pre-match nerves?
I used to listen to raging music and watch tackling videos but I got over hyped, so now I stay in bed as long as possible before I have to leave.
What training sessions or drills do you like best?
I enjoy sprinting and tackling drills.
What three qualities are most important for succeeding in your position or rugby in general?
What has been your favourite rugby social?
I really enjoy our rugby team’s book club. It’s so bloody wholesome.
What do you do outside of rugby?
I am a member of the WI, I’m part of two book clubs, I go to the gym. I love doing lots and keeping busy!
Finally, can we have two truths and one lie?
Well that's a tricky 'two truths, one lie' to puzzle over... Join Jenna and the rest of the team tomorrow morning at the Lakenham clubhouse from 8am for the England match! BYOM (bring your own McMuffin) and cash for the bar.
