New for the 19/20 season we bring you Thursday night fitness with Punk PT Lizi! She has designed sessions to help our women's and men's teams improve their fitness and performance on the pitch, but the sessions are open to anyone who'd like to come along. Every Thursday at our Hilltops ground from 7pm, just bring £2, some water, and a smile!
I woke up one morning, a week before my 25th birthday, and realised something needed to change. Many years of bad mental health, bad habits and certainly no exercise (especially not in sports) had taken a huge toll and I was at rock bottom. I joined a gym down the road from me on a whim and I have never looked back. Thanks to the staff there and my new found drive I went from huge depressive episodes and being unable to walk up 2 flights of stairs without stopping and needing my inhaler - to now being a competitive powerlifter, rugby player and personal trainer. I use my own experiences and understanding of negative feelings around exercise to help people feel better in themselves mentally and physically!
I started playing rugby in January for Lakenham Hewett Ladies and it has changed my life completely. Even before stepping on the pitch I felt myself become more confident, I learned how to work in a team and met some inspiring women. I have now played a few matches and have worked hard to play front row and will never look back!
I have been given an amazing opportunity to train the women's and men’s teams fitness on a Thursday evening and I am thoroughly enjoying it. In the sessions I am looking at exercise form, strength based exercises around the movements used in rugby and general fitness - all of which are adaptable for any level! I am also available for advice around injury prevention and gym based workouts too.
