Cup semi final

Sunny but windy day at Holt for the cup semi-final

Lakenham started the game a bit slow, allowing Holt to keep resetting their pods and after a few dominant phases opened up some space in the lakenham defence to run over and put down. Not a day for kicking with the wind and missed the conversion. This gave the Lakenham lads the boot up the arse they needed as they started to take control from the reset. Bartlett broke the line and after beating another 4 Holt defenders popped the ball off to Mackenzie, who had made a 30 meter supporting run, to dot down to level up. Skipper Holland to convert his first of the day from directly infront of the posts - 7-5.

There were chances for Holt to have made it more but some great last ditch defending from Mackenzie making a few one on one try saving tackles and allowing his team to get men back behind the ball.

Lakenham continued to put Holt on the back foot but numerous errors and a wall of black hindering anymore additions to the scoredboard for the men in red. Against the run of play Holt turned over in Lakenhams half and found another gap in the defence to add another try under the posts and convert this time. Nearing the end of the half, continous Lakenham pressure and penalty after penalty from Holt, Squires was quickest to react and take a quick tap from 5 out and smash over the line, taking the 3 Holt defenders with him. Finishing the first half level 12-12

The 2nd half started how the first ended with Lake on the front foot from the get go. Some great work from the pods, the backs beginning to link up and allowing Kingsley to kick cross field for a try in the corner for Stead on the opposite wing. With the wind not letting up and a kick right in the corner meant Hollands kick would fall short of the posts. 12-17

The boys had a bit between their teeth now and Holt didn't look like getting back into the game. More great work from Lakehams forwards, gaining yards and retaining ball, allowing the backs to spin it out the hands for Kingsley and Bickel to both weave through the Holt defence out wide and dot down. Holland and Bickel both failing to put it through the sticks from out wide. 12-27

Holt weren't done though, with some scrappy defence from Lake, saw them pounce on a loose ball and get themselves back in it as this followed with another to bring it back for an interesting last 15. 22-27

Lake soon switched back on though and ended the game dominantly with some more swift hands allowing Bickel to get himself another 2 out wide, running through unopposed to put down under the posts, finishing the game on a hat-trick. Another big solo run from Bartlett opening up the space for Kingsley to get a try out wide. Conversions for Holland and 2 for Bickel, match ending Holt 27- 48 Lakenham-Hewett

Was a well fought contest and thanks to Holt for a great game

Mom - Travis
