Edgar Parkinson R.I.P our thoughts and prayers are with his Family

Edgar is the one second from the left with the very stripy socks!!
- Jan Parkinson

Edgar Parkinson sadly passed away on Wednesday the 4th November, at home, aged 89.
Edgar still holds the record for number of appearances (nearly 600!) and he achieved this in 15 consecutive seasons from 1949/50 to 1963/64. He also played three finals in four years from 1951 to 1955 for City and won a medal in the first, but finished on the losing side in the others.

Edgar and his Wife Phyllis were invited to attend an event at Lancaster Town Hall to celebrate the club's centenary and his Daughter Jan also attended along with her partner Paul. It was a great night and Edgar was presented with a silver plate to commemorate his achievement.

In 2011 the Family organised a surprise joint 80th birthday party for them at The Dolly Blue Tavern, a few ex players turned up and the Chairman presented Edgar with a Lancaster City shirt, on the back it says Parkinson and 80 ...

Jan says... Dad whispered to me, 'they've put the wrong number on it' ... ha ha, I said 'it's your age Dad'. That was a Friday night, and unbeknown to Him , the next day my partner and my sister's partner, took Dad along to watch the team play. Dad had his shirt on!! Myself, Mum and my sister were sneaked in without his knowledge and at half time, they got Dad on the pitch and presented him with a glass plate! The crowd clapped and cheered, Dad was very proud as were we and he said many people had gone to speak to him and remembered him from his playing days, you must have very loyal supporters. I have attached a couple of photos of the day.

After that, we were all invited to attend the annual awards ceremony and Dad was asked to present the 'record number of appearances' award, to Neil MarshallI think it was 300+ .... As Dad handed it over and shook the guys hand, he said to him 'well done, but it's nowhere near my record' ... always the joker.

The funeral is Tuesday the 17th November, but due to current restrictions only immediate family can attend, any donations in memory of Edgar would be gratefully received by St. Johs's Hospice'.
