The club can confirm that Simon Wills and Ben Hudson have both left the club following the conclusion of the 2021/22 season.
Simon, a former captain and vice-captain, played in Dolly Blue over 300 times and will be fondly remembered as a tough-tackling midfielder who always gave everything to the cause. Following discussions at the end of his contract, it was requested by Simon that the extension option wasn’t activated due to his availability and extended travel requirements for the upcoming season. This was agreed with the manager and Simon leaves with the best wishes of the whole club.
Ben, a member of the 200 club, joined City over 10 years ago and has been a regular feature at the heart of the City defence. Last season, Ben suffered a knee injury that kept him out from the turn of the year onwards, and following discussions with the club, he leaves to seek a new challenge and guaranteed regular first-team football.
“These lads have been fantastic to work with, they’ve given their all for the club and will be remembered for their dedication and commitment to City,” said Lancaster boss Mark Fell. “I wish them both the best if they continue to play in future and they will always be welcome back at Giant Axe. We always knew there was a player transition on the horizon and, now we have a better understanding of where we are with the current side, our recruitment efforts can be accelerated.”
Wills and Hudson are two legends of Giant Axe who will always be associated with the great history of the club and leave with our very best wishes. Full retention details along with information on some new faces at the Giant Axe will follow in due course…
