With the issues at North Ferriby putting a little bit of added pressure on our own situation, Mark Fell’s side came to Hyde with confidence built on good performances and positive recent results.

Lancaster started quite lively with David Norris looking like he’d relish the 3G surface.

Four minutes in and City looked to put pressure on the United keeper as Brad Carsley chased down. The clearance as it happened led to Hyde’s first chance with a low and wide effort from Adam O’Reilly.

Early signs were that City could break fast and purposefully. A long range effort from Blinkhorn and a great effort from Carsley following another keeper chase down by Wills showed how dangerous the Dollies can be.

More good football from Carsley and a volley from Rob Wilson gave Lancaster the better chances of the opening quarter.

Early clearances, touches and headed play confirmed last minute Dollies addition Daniel Moss as a strong centre back option.

As we approached the half hour point Lancaster were still valiant in their pursuit of the first goal at Ewan Fields. Jarvis sent in a deep cross which was inches ahead of the stretched leg of David Norris. Shortly after, a dribbling run by Rob Wilson nearly found a way through.

Lancaster really did turn on some nice attacking football in the latter stages of the first half. Wilson, blinks and Carsley combined nicely but City went in with little reward for their chances as the half time score remained nil all.

The worry second half was that where the wind was in our favour first half, it was against us for the second period. First chance of the second half went to United too as Smalley drilled the ball wide of the post. Another chance followed as Paddy Lane hooked an effort over the bar. Lancaster certainly didn’t start this half with as much vigour as the last.

It was Lancaster who took the lead though. A perfect cross whipped in with pace by Lewis Fensome was glanced into the far corner off the post by a grateful and unmarked Charlie Bailey.

A cruel blow came for Lancaster ten minutes later when our diehard captain Simon Wills threw his body in front of a shot from Hyde and was given a yellow card and a penalty decision against him for his bravery. Paddy Lane sent Jack Simms the wrong way.

Fortunately City didn’t have to wait long to take the lead again. After battling for the ball on the Wing, Lewis Fensome took control and sprinted into the area before slotting home a confident effort along the artificial surface.

Lancaster kept the momentum too. Good interplay between Blinks and Norris resulted in a volley chance for Nozza which sailed wide of the right post.

Some were worried for a minute when new boy Daniel Moss slid to take out a Hyde winger. It looked like the referee held the red card at first but slowed the pace with a talking to and proceeded to produce the yellow.

United pressed in the last ten minutes winning a corner from a deflected shot by Hyde’s replacement winger. The corner ended up in the City net but was courtesy of a foul so the lead remained.

Four minutes of injury time followed and standard fan nerves set in. Another corner to United in the dying minutes was followed by yet another. Both were suitably cleared by the Dollies defence and at the final whistle Lancaster deservedly took all three points.
