After a successful start to pre-season, Lawson becomes City's seventh summer addition

Following a successful trial period, striker Dom Lawson has signed on the dotted line to join Lancaster for the 2022/23 season and, in doing so, becomes our seventh summer recruit.

The 25-year-old arrives with a stunning, almost ‘goal a game’ record for Thornton Cleveleys who won last season's West Lancs League and already has three goals this preseason for the Dolly Blues.

City manager Mark Fell thinks the club may have unearthed a hidden gem: “He’s got great attributes, his movement is excellent and we think we can further develop him to be a really top striker in this league. He’s hungry to progress and knows where the net is, simple as that, compare him to Brad Carsley who had a similar West Lancs goal record, he made the step up and I think Dom will. He gives us a point of difference from our other forwards and fits into our group.”

Lawson gave LCFC Media his thoughts upon signing for the club: "At first, I was a bit nervous, obviously a bit apprehensive with it being four leagues up, but now I’m involved and getting to know everyone I’m just really enjoying it and I can’t wait for the season to start because I think there are good things that can come from this. There’s obviously a really good squad and hopefully me joining makes it stronger so we can push on to where we need to be. It feels like a close-knit group here and when it’s like that, where everyone gets on and has got each other’s back, you can achieve anything, can’t you."

Lawson grabbed a brace again Skelmersdale and a goal at Slyne on Tuesday night before appearing as a second-half replacement for Nic Evangelinos last night against Blackburn Rovers. Of his own game, he said, "I link up the play quite well, get everyone involved, hold up the ball well and work hard for the team by pressing from the front, winning the ball back and obviously scoring a few goals as well. The players in the team are all very good, so I know where they’re going to cross it and what run I need to make and where I need to be – then I just have to put it in the net."

Welcome, Dom!
