Lancaster City faced AFC Fylde in their first outing since re joining ahead of the 2024/25 season.

Lancaster City looked to apply early pressure onto their visitors as Sam Bailey applied pressure on his usual right flank, forcing AFC Fylde to surrender possession to the Dolly Blue captain. His dangerous ball into the area looked set to find Dom Lawson who unfortunately found himself just short of the ball.

Chris Willcock’s side flew out of the traps inside the opening ten minutes, Tom Kilifin deployed himself down the left flank and intercepted inside the area. From a right angle, he opts to shoot but his effort looked to be dragging wide but was cleared to safety to avoid any poaching opportunities.

Lancaster City had the best chance of the half to take the lead after 26 minutes. Sam Baileys out swinging ball from the right found new signing Chris Dagnall who collected the ball with a brilliant touch. After generating space, he dragged a shot wide into the path of an oncoming Tom Kilifin who took an angled shot which trickled just wide.

The visitors looked threatening when Emeka Obi looked to play forward from his position in central defence. Obi found the pass to Bryce Hosannah who had darted down the right. His run continues into the box and with the angle narrowing his shot struck the side netting of the Lancaster City Trialists net.

The visitors did take the lead with their second real attempt on target through a Trialist. He picked the ball up from 25 yards and curled his shot into the top right corner.

The halftime whistle soon arrived and Lancaster City headed into the break a goal behind despite some positive play early on.

Lancaster City got themselves back into the tie with a super goal from Chris Dagnall after 52 minutes. Charlie Bailey produced good play to find Dagnall on the edge of the box. It took one touch for Dagnall to compose himself before bending a shot towards Theo Richardson who could only see the ball rebound off the post and into the back of the net.

After a full change at the break, AFC Fylde’s Nick Haughton received the ball from a deep position inside his own half. With no options, he drove through the midfield before being brought down on the edge of the area from a Lancaster City challenge. Haughton took the following freekick and his effort was superbly placed into the top left corner after 61 minutes.

The following minutes of the game become a lull as both teams battled for possession. As the end began closing in, Lancaster City had a brilliant chance to find an equaliser. Marcus Cusani had made a run inside the area and a lucky bounce of the ball fell his way. His first touch was good but his effort was well saved by Richardson who was not fooled by Marcus Cusani.

That was the final action of the game and Lancaster City fell to defeat. Lancaster Cuty are next in action on Saturday 13th against Altincham.
