After a disappointing loss to Basford on Saturday, City were looking to bounce back and pick up their first three points of the season against a visiting Morpeth who had not lost a game since January.
It was a dream start for the Dollies as they took the lead inside six minutes when Blinkhorn chested the ball down and played a through ball to Rhys Turner who fired it with speed into the left corner.
Things got even better for City, it took them just four minutes to find the back of the net once more with Sloan latching onto a ball across the face of goal by Rhys Turner. Sloans pass found David Norris who slammed the ball home for the Dollies second.
However, City had to make an early change when Rhys Turner went down holding his ankle with Paul Dawson coming on to replace him.
The rest of the half was mediocre with both sides defence holding up well for the remainder of the half.
A game of two halves is a phrase cast around a lot, and this game had exactly that.
The beginning of the second half was all Morpeth and the pressure applied paid off with Liam Henderson finding the back of the net.
Football is often described as the beautiful game but it is safe to say that the latter stages of the match at Giant Axe were ugly.
A scrap occurred in the 88th minute which resulted in a Morpeth player and Paul Dawson being shown straight red cards.
City then suffered late heartbreak as two points were snatched away from their grasp with Morpeth scoring a last minute header to maintain their undefeated run which has lasted since January.
