The Dolly Blues are through to the next round of the FA Trophy after disposing of Droylsden in their replay on Tuesday night.

A brace from defender Josh Westwood and a quality strike from Jacob Gregory sent City through to the next round of the FA Trophy, where they will face a trip to Evo-Stik South side Stocksbridge Park Steels.

Phil Brown's side returned to their best form as they were by far the better side on the night and created numerous chances in both halves in a feisty game of football.

Jordan Connerton had City's best two chances early in the game as he got in behind the defence on two occasions, but his shots were well saved by James Coates in the Bloods' goal.

Jacob Gregory also had a sighter as he fired wide from a tight angle as City looked threatening, and eventually broke the deadlock 5 minutes before the half time whistle. Billy Akrigg's corner was flicked on at the near post by Louis Mayers and converted from close range at the back stick by Westwood.

The lead, sadly, only lasted minutes as Jack Rudge fired a shot through a crowded box in the 42nd minute that found the corner of the net to level the scores going into half time.

The second half was full of chances for the Dolly Blues as Mayers hit a shot off the bar and Akrigg had a curling effort palmed wide. It took a fantastic effort from Gregory to take the lead on 56 minutes as he lashed a shot from 20 yards into the top left corner of the net, leaving Coates stranded.

Westwood sealed the win with a superb header from a corner that found the net via the underside of the bar on the hour mark. Mayers and Connerton both went close in the final stages whilst the hosts had a goal ruled out for offside as Lancaster held on to claim the £2,500 prize money and seal their tie against Stocksbridge.

The game against Stocksbridge will be played on Saturday 29th October.
