Langholm progressed to the next round of the Forsyth cup after holding off a second-half come-back from their local rivals.
Langholm started with a bang, having played under 5 minutes it was Hamilton who opened the scoring for the home team, latching onto a loose ball just inside the 6-yard box and directing the ball into the back of the net.
The legion doubled their lead after 10 minutes, Lee Irving scoring a carbon copy of his goal the previous week, a Cuthbert free-kick being met with a glancing header from the Langholm captain.
The Waverley weren’t without chances, looking dangerous from set pieces they were unlucky not to pull a goal back after a header was cleared off the line from a corner.
Hamilton scored his second goal of the day, cutting in from the right wing and slotting the ball past the Waverley keeper with a shot from outside the box. His first hattrick for the club was soon to follow, once again cutting in from the wing and driving the ball past the away keeper.
Langholm went in at the break 4-0 up and were confident that they would be able to see the game from this strong position. The team from up the road had other ideas.
Hawick started the second half with a point to prove, they were duly rewarded after some slick passing up through the pitch cut Langholm open and the striker found himself able to slot the ball past Johnson in goals.
With half an hour to go they clawed back another with a well-taken free kick, whipping the ball round the wall, and leaving Johnson with little chance in goal.
Continued pressure from the away team was met with the occasional chance for Langholm who were unable to convert from some good positions. Hawick were denied their third after yet another corner was cleared off the line. Langholm weren’t off the hook though, with 2 minutes remaining of regular time Hawick finally got their goal from a corner.
Injury time was a tense affair, with Langholm doing their best to hold out for a win. Hawick were throwing everything at the home-team but this allowed a final counter-attack for Langholm, Whittall rounded the Waverley keeper but was unabe to direct the resulting shot on target.
Langholm progress into the quarter-final where they will face Tweeddale Rovers.
